China to see further drop in urban housing prices in 2009Published: 10 Feb 2009 00:00:00 PSTFeb. 10, 2009 (China Knowledge) — China’s housing prices will likely fall 8% to 10% this year, while some of the larger cities like Beijing and Shanghai may experience a decline of 15% to 20%, said Chen Xikang, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), on Monday.Chen, also a consultant with the World Bank, pointed out that the forecasts were made according to both economic models and observations of the development of China’s housing market in recent years.Housing prices far beyond the income of common people have long aroused complaints from the public.
